I was 15 when I finally decided to re-do my room, the day I decided was one of the best days of my life...as so I thought! I was way in over my head. I added at least 50 things to my cart from Urban Outfitters and Ikea, I wanted every decoration and cool furniture item they had. But my mom stopped me there, she reminded me I first needed to come up with a layout and we hadn't even done any measuring or painting, so I slowed my roll. The next week we went to Home depot and got two gallons of white paint, I had a vision in my head that I was ready to jump right in and create. We got home and vigorously painted and finally after about a week we were done. More work than I thought. Then came the decorating, the most fun part about the exhausting process. I picked out the items I wanted decorating my room and I set them up the way I wanted but I'd missed the whole lighting aspect. My whole room was solely lit up by a single lamp. Crap!! Finally we made our way to target and bought fairy lights and brighter light bulbs for my overhead light. It was done within the next week but looking back on it, I've realized that if i'd had these steps before I started decorating all the stressful work that went into redoing my room could have been made into a fun and creative experience. Lighting... Once again

You cannot escape the lighting, no matter how hard you try. Hang string lights or better known with the young crowd as fairy lights, around the perimeter of your room. The lighting can be #Tumblr and create a groovy vibe that you may be grasping for.

Art Aesthetic

Growing up I was actively involved in aesthetically pleasing art and taking such photos. If you or someone you know takes pictures you would want on your wall, send them to your local print shop and get them printed for your room, a personal touch can be exactly what you need. Pick certain walls in your room where posters would look best as well as photos or small polaroids.

Furniture:

Pick matching furniture like black dresses for a white walled room. The furniture color is crucial if you don't want a single item to stand out more than others.

Paint first:

If you're completely re-doing everything, you'll need paint. When I re-did my room I painted it a stark white and I loved it because I could match anything with it! Any natural color will be perfectly fine if your desire is decoration and art.
